Dear Friends and Families,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year at Ridge Hill School! Your Preschool team this year will be Miss Kelley and Miss Melissa we are very excited to be a part of your child’s education and look forward to working together to make this a most successful school year.

Our preschool day is a busy one that will be filled with enriching and fun activities in a very nurturing environment. It is our goal to help your child become better prepared cognitively, physically, socially and emotionally in order to grow and learn as an individual and as a group member.

Basic skills will be taught in a small group setting. The main objectives during this time will be learning letters and numbers, counting, handwriting, and recognizing shapes and colors. At Ridge Hill we use the Handwriting Without Tears program. For preschoolers this program is ideal, because it gets them interested and enthusiastic about writing, through music and stories as well as a variety of hands on activities that will inspire them to improve as they move up through school. Your child will have the same small group teacher throughout the entire year. You will find out your child’s small group teacher on the first day of school. In addition to our small group time our day will also include large motor play with a variety of choice activities as well as art, music and science. (We try to go outside each day so please keep an eye on the weather and dress your child appropriately.)

Our program officially starts at 8:50 in the morning and 1:00 in the afternoon. It is important that you have your child at school on time as it helps your child get acclimated and makes the transition smooth for all. Your child will also have the opportunity to be our “VIP” during the school year and bring MAT MAN home. You will be notified when it is your child’s turn.

Parent volunteers are welcome and will be an option at certain times throughout the year. However, the home and school connection is vital to your child’s success. It will be important to keep communication strong between us, please feel free to talk to any one of us about your child’s progress.

We are looking forward to seeing new and old friends very soon!
