Happy March!
February was a quick month, but with plenty done. We started the month off learning about Groundhog day, songs , shadows and art projects. In that same week we celebrated the 100th day of school. Thank you to all the parents who came in to help. We had a great celebration, counting all the way to 100, gathering things in 10 groups of 10, songs and artwork.
The children have loved learning about our featured artists, Jean Hans Arp, Jackson Pollack, Salvador Dali and Botticelli. They are excited about coming to Ridge Hill School in the evening with their families to show off their artwork. They have worked very hard and we are proud of them as I’m sure you will be when you view their artwork.
We continue our weekly letter program, introducing a new letter, letter sound, how to write it, word that begin with it, art projects and books. Miss Shealene has enjoyed decorating our writing center each week with all the letter writing our friends do during choice. Our small groups continue to focus on challenging the children at their individual development in all areas, fine motor, letter, number recognition, writing, patterns, emotions, etc.
Our science curriculum has involved, primary colors, mixing colors to get different shades, or different colors. We also enjoyed learning about air, wind and energy with balloons. The force of the air leaving the balloon causes the balloon to move. We put string from one corner of the room to the other, taped a balloon to a straw, string through the straw, blew up the balloon and we watched it soar across the room – Fun.
March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. Miss Nicole is charting the weather with the children, each day in March will be classified as a lion day or a lamb day.
We look forward to the snow melting and looking for signs of spring, and to seeing all of you at the art show.

March certainly did come roaring in like a lion, hopefully it will leave like a lamb!!
During March we will be doing a lot of weather activities, and we will be graphing our lion and lamb days. As a class, we will be doing some science experiments that deal with wind - these are always exciting for the children. Hopefully during the month we will be able to get outside and take advantage of the outdoors for some of our experiments.
Please remember the Art Show is on Tuesday, March 10th from 6-7:30, we hope to see all of you there!!! The children have worked so hard creating their masterpieces during February. You will all be amazed at how breathtaking their art is - it is amazing what 4, 5 & 6 year-olds can create!!!
We are also very excited to have Big Ryan back this month on the 10th and 13th - the children become mesmerized by his incredible storytelling. We hope you are able to join us for at least one of the days.
As always, Parent Volunteers are always welcome to our classroom. Please be sure to talk to a teacher if you are interested in joining us for a morning or afternoon.
Important Reminders:
- During the winter, if the parking lot is covered with snow we will be bringing your child out to your car - please be sure to be at school by 12:30 on these days
- All winter items should be labeled - the children get confused sometimes as to what is theirs
- Please be sure to put your child’s snack in the snack bin and their lunches in the lunch bins with their name on it - the snack bin is labeled SNACK in our hallway
Happy Days to All,
