End of year Pre-K / Kindergarten Letter

July 06, 2010 (posted by Stacey - Ridge Hill School)

Wow what a way to end such a wonderful year in the pre-kindergarten / kindergarten classroom!!!!  It was such a joy seeing 47 little happy faces dancing and singing on stage.  It is amazing how far all of the children grew in just 10 months.  They made friendships that they may have all through school, how nice is that!!  There is nothing more satisfying than seeing each child develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed in their next journey - “the big school”.  It is nice to see the children as the year went on, looking for new learning challenges - so many children were so eager to read out loud each day!!  We will surely miss all the smiling faces, funny stories and daily giggles that will now be echoing the classroom of their new school.

We hope you all have a happy, fun-filled summer and remember to keep on reading!!!

Thanks again for the chance to be a part of your child’s learning adventure!

Important News and Dates for February

February 01, 2010 (posted by Ridge Hill School)

To Ridge Hill Parents,

Here is the email that most families received but because a server went down last week .
Dear Families,
During the month of February we have many classroom events that will be happening. Our much anticipated 100th day celebration is February 11th. All children are welcome to attend the fun activities from 10am – 11am on that day. This will be the only day and time to celebrate the 100th day.

For (Valentines Day) this year we have decided to call it “Friendship Day”. Each class will celebrate the meaning of friendship on Monday February 8th and Tuesday February 9th. The time for the festivities will be 9:30-10:30 for the preschool class and 10:30-11:30 for the pre-k/k class. The afternoon session time will be 2:00-3:00 for the preschool and 3:00-4:00 for the pre-k/k. For the Friendship Day Celebration (aka Valentines Day), each class will be making a Friendship Fruit Salad. Please have your child bring in pre-cut fruit to add to the salad. All children are welcome to bring in Valentines. Only have your child sign their name on the card. If you can keep the cards the same for boys and girls it makes the distribution so much easier. The total number of cards to bring in is 45. Please mark these dates and times down on your calendar. If you have any questions please let Miss Vicki know.
We hope you all can appreciate our need to encourage the simple meaning of friendship, kindness, sharing and spending quality time together. We will be having a busy week at RHS and know that your child will enjoy all the fun activities we have planned for them.
Thank you very much,
Vicki DeFreitas

Outdoor Clothing

February 01, 2010 (posted by Ridge Hill School)

Please remember to bring your appropriate outdoor clothing to RHS everyday. Jacket, hats and mittens are extremely important for outdoor play. In the case of snow, please make sure your child has boots everyday as well. We will go outside if the temperature is 29-30 degrees or higher. Thank you all for your help.
Much appreciation,
The Ridge Hill School Teachers

Directors News From Miss Vicki February 2010

Happy Hearts Month!
We are one month closer to spring and warm weather… four more months until May! January came and went quickly as each classroom was busy learning, laughing and having fun. Being able to get out and play in the snow is so much fun with friends. We do have some notices posted outside the preschool classroom on missing items. If anyone has them , please return to Miss Vicki. We try to keep all of your child’s belongings together as best as we can and appologize if some items get misplaced.

As we enter the month of February we have several events here at Ridge Hill School that will need your child’s attendance. Please mark your calendars and see your classroom newsletters for information. I also sent out an email regarding the Friendship Day parties and 100th Day party. Unfortunately, we have been experiencing some technical problems with our web host. If you receive some of these emails multiple times we appologize. The problem should be fixed shortly.
Important Dates:
Friendship Days: Monday February 8th and Tuesday February 9th see class news for times
100th Day Celebration: Thursday February 11th 10-11am for all children
Monday February 15th: Closed Presidents Day

The month of February the front hallways will be set up with some incredible classroom portfolios

From the Directors Corner: A New Year’s Message from Miss Vicki

January 04, 2010 (posted by Ridge Hill School)

Welcome 2010!
The beginning of a new decade at The Ridge Hill School of Norwell. The first half of our school year brought us together as a school, community and classroom. We have built new friendships, learned many new skills and concepts , laughed, danced, smiled and enjoyed the warm and inviting environment the teachers set forth each and every day.
I can honestly say that with each year, we continue to strive for the best education your child can receive here at Ridge Hill School.

In the upcoming months we will begin preparations for our annual Art Show and End of Year Graduation Celebration. The dates for these 2 events are not set yet. I will announce the dates for the Art Show and End of Year Graduation at the end of January.
A few reminders as we are in the heart of “winter” here at school. Please remember hats, mittens, and boots. WE will only go outside if the temperature is above 29 degrees. So please make sure you have your child prepared for the day. We strongly recommend snow pants as well. To make it easier you can leave a set here at school on your child’s coathook. Make sure to have all outdoor clothing items labeled with your child’s name on it.

As a school we have been maintaining the standards for NAEYC accredidation to our school. Each teacher has kept a well organized, prepared portfolio binder for their classroom as well as their small group. This allows us to maintain our curriculum and lesson plans each week and month. The teachers have worked very hard to make their portfolio binders.
For up to the date snow closings please visit our website as we will post any school cancellations we may have. I will always post in ample time for you to secure any back up care you need for that day.

Each classroom has posted their monthly newsletter to our website for the month of January 2010. This is your up to the minute news and information for your child’s classroom. Please remember to visit the website and read about your child’s important class happenings.
During the month we will be handing out progress reports. Parents will be able to sign up for a 15 minute conference with their child’s teacher. Once you have received your progress reports and you can sign up outside your child’s classroom. These will go out the third week in January.

Thank you all for your generosity this holiday season. The fun treats, home-made crafts, holiday cards, and gifts were very special to me.

A few quotes I came across over vacation I thought some of you might like to read”
“May you be happy always” (honore de balzac) and “Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, Today is a Gift”(eleanor roosevelt). Some bits of inspiration to think about in your everyday life.

Best Wishes for a Happy, Healthy, and Exciting New Year!
